What do you people think about putting road pedals on a fixed gear?

by "road pedals" are you speaking about clipless pedals - like Look or SPD pedals?

if so - i think that clipless pedals are the shizz - i rode clipless on my road & mtb for many many years and considered them for my fixed gear before discovering the wonderful world of a big fat platform pedal with a street strap...

now ask me if they are better than a fatty BMX platform with some dope-ass BEAR sTRAPS and will have to say "NO SIR"...

but if you get a good deal on some road shoes and pedals (prolly abotu 200 bux to start for both - and thats on the low end for new stuff) - i say go for it, BUT -

make sure if you ahve never ridden clipless that you set your release tension to LOW LOW LOW - you WILL fall over becuase you couldnt get yrou feet out in time if your shits too tight - consider yoruself warned.....

Werd - PB.

I'm going to try it real soon. I have a pair of SPD pedals on my road bike. Gonna transfer them over to my fixed gear and give it a shot.

i can only imagine that its ideal for fixed use. no more firm commenction between rider and machine than a mechanical connection thru the SPD's...

It all depends on what type of riding you hope to do. For casual short rides, cages are probably the smart choice. However, clipless pedals are the only way to go if you want to cover longer distances (20-50+ miles) because of the added efficiency (and to a lesser degree- comfort, and weight advantage). The only notable disadvantage to clipless is that you'll need to pack a normal pair of shoes to get around if you plan on stopping anywhere and spending time off your bike before returning to your place of departure. It can take some getting used to but if you want to get around quickly and cover decent distances in comfort you'll probably be much happier in clipless pedals.

I would personally go for a look or shimano road style pedal on a road or fixed bike.
